Chewy is a three-month-old tiny chihuahua whose distraught owner abandoned her at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The poor dog was discovered in a restroom there, inside a bag with a depressing note which explained why the dog was abandoned.
The note said that Chewy’s owner was a victim of domestic violence. She has had enough of her boyfriend’s physical abuse and has chosen to break up with him. She had a flight but was unable to afford a flight for her dog. It further said that, despite not wishing to abandon her dog, she had no choice but to leave Chewy behind.
The owner also said that the dog was mistreated. During one of their disputes, the violent boyfriend kicked the dog, causing a bump on his head. She hoped that whoever found her pet would take her to a veterinarian and give her proper care.
A member of the airport staff discovered Chewy and, after reporting the incident to airport officials, opted to turn him over to Connor and Millie’s Canine Rescue, a Las Vegas-based dog rescue organization. The rescue organization, moved by the dog’s story, decided to share it on their Facebook page. The group claimed that they did it to let Chewy’s owner know that her pet is doing well and to wish her the best of luck.
Chewy has been examined by a veterinarian, who has given him a clean bill of health.
When people read the message, thousands of adoption applications were sent in to adopt the dog. And after thoroughly examining each family, the rescue org identified the best one for him.
Chewy now resides in Las Vegas with his new family who loves him and cares for him, just like how his former fur mom wanted. Hopefully, she has also discovered a better life.
