GinaMarie is a resident of Atlanta who wanted to adopt a dog that nobody wanted. She did some research and discovered that black pit bulls are the type of dogs that is rarely adopted. She then went on Facebook and looked at the page of the Fulton County Animal Services. There he came across the picture of Felon.
She learned that Felon was rescued from a group that breeds and raises pit bulls for dogfighting. When he was found, the poor pooch had a lot of wounds and old injuries. He was taken to the local shelter where he was finally free from the violent world he grew in. But the abused pit bull was not out of danger yet.
By the time GinaMarie found him, Felon was already placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list.
Lucky break
GinaMarie called the Fulton County Animal Services, and that’s when she learned that time was running short for the black pit bull. The kind lady immediately went there and filed for her adoption. It didn’t take long until she was allowed to take Felon home.
But things didn’t go easy for both of them. After years of being exposed to the terrifying world of dogfighting, Felon was traumatized and was very anxious with the presence of people. He kept to himself all the time, choosing to stay in one corner of GinaMarie’s bedroom.
The new dog owner tried everything that she could to gain her pet’s trust, but he was very adamant about being left alone. There were times when GinaMarie would cry out of frustration and desperation, but she hanged on. Returning the dog was not an option for her.
Finally happy
Months after Felon got adopted, GinaMarie’s father came for a visit and brought his senior lab. The rescue dog quickly came alive and started playing with the older pooch. For the first time, GinaMarie was able to take her dog out for a walk. This gave her an idea.
The patient woman went back to the shelter and adopted another pit bull named Envy. She had the same background as Felon, but she wasn’t as deeply affected by her past. Envy was more sociable and outgoing.
The two dogs quickly bonded, and Envy taught Felon how to be a pet. It took some time, but Felon finally became a well-rounded dog.
