It is unbelievable that dog fighting rings still exist up to this day. The poor dogs experience so much abuse and cruelty. It does nothing for them except traumatize and injure them for life. So when Hooch, a dog from a fighting ring, was able to escape the tough situation he was in, it was the start of a new chapter in his life.
The doggo ended up in a shelter and was about to be put to sleep. Luckily, Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue was able to step in and save Hooch from certain death. When they took him in, it was heartbreaking to see the bad shape that he was in.
Hooch’s tongue was cut and as well as his ears back when he was still in the fighting ring. So feeding him wasn’t going to be easy. When he first got rescued, they fed Hooch through an esophageal tube so he could still get all the nutrition and water he needed.
Eventually, the doggo learned how to drink water on his own. His rescuers said that he would drink like a horse. After some time, the doggo was able to cope with his situation. When he got adopted, his hooman learned that they had to hand feed him gently at the back of his mouth so he could eat.
Knowing that everything was turning out fine, Hooch was thriving in his new home. He loved his hoomans so much, and he gets to go on different adventures with other doggos. He also got to experience a lot of other new things.
Despite his rough past, Hooch was a very calm and gentle boy, so he was able to participate in different support programs like prison rehab. Through the help of the rescue group’s Miracle Mutts program, Hooch also became a certified therapy dog, where he gets to work with a lot of new people, especially kids.
In 2016, the doggo received American Humane’s Hero Dog Award for his amazing service. Every day, Hooch gets to live his life to the fullest, thanks to his rescuers and his hoomans. Being showered with love and kindness, he gets to pay it forward to the people around him.
