Doggos who run away can definitely use the help of some good Samaritans. Luckily for our four-legged friends, there are still plenty of dog lovers out there who would help whenever they spot a runaway doggo. Just like Californian couple Kody and Brian Marquez.
The couple decided to help out a pooch who was stuck in a drainage ditch pipe somewhere in Beaumont, California. Kody saw the photos of the poor pupper online and she knew she had to do something. As Kody explained in an interview, she has been helping animals in need since she was a child.
Kody, along with her husband rushed to the location. The dog-loving woman stated that it was around 100 degrees that time, and the concrete was almost 140 degrees Fahrenheit. So the couple knew they had to save this fur baby. Brian tossed a few pieces of food towards the doggo to coax her out.
They spent over an hour trying to gain her trust, and when Brian poured some cold water into a bowl, the pooch then understood why they were there. It was smooth sailing after that point. The couple was able to put a leash around her neck, and she hopped into the car with them without any hesitation.
However, this dog rescue mission is not completed yet. The couple drove to a fire station nearby to have the pupper scanned for a microchip. Riverside County Animal Services provided microchip scanners to different fire stations in the area. And when they scanned the doggo, she did have a chip insider her!
With the help of the animal control services from the neighboring cities, they were able to track down the owner. It turned out that this doggo’s name is Perla, and she ran away from her home during the Fourth of July celebrations. Hopefully, this story will inspire many dog parents to chip their fur babies, as it could be instrumental in recovering their pups should they run away.
