Shira Scott Astrof, founder and CEO of the nonprofit group The Animal Rescue Mission, received a video of a senior shelter dog named Bruno. When she saw him tremble uncontrollably, she felt both sorry and appalled. She figured out she had to quickly do something about the situation or the poor dog would not last any longer.
The rescuer held the dog as soon as she met him. She wanted to comfort him and let him know that he was safe with her. She took her time and ten minutes later, she was happy to see him relax even a bit.
Bruno was an old gentleman that wanted to love and be loved but he was just too scared and worried. At his age, he should be complacent in a home but instead, he was in a shelter. And surely, its noisy environment caused him to be in horror.
After his soothing bath, Bruno went straight to his foster home and his foster mom Chekecha was so excited to meet him. She, however, did not have any idea that he was just so broken. He hid under the bed on his first day home and she failed to do anything to get him to come out.
As an experienced dog foster, Chekecha knew exactly just what to do to comfort Bruno. She bought him toys, a warm bed, a soft blanket, and a bunch of sweaters to keep him warm. And at night, she tuck him in bed and sang him a lullaby song.
Within seconds, Bruno forgot all his fears. He stopped trembling and completely relaxed. He found comfort in his foster mom’s angelic voice. He loved her nighttime song for him so he went to bed and slept peacefully through the night.
About a month later, adoption applications for Bruno started flooding Shirah’s inbox. A lot of potential adopters seemed great but a man named Armmen appeared perfect. He wanted a senior dog that he could be with all the time and that’s what she wanted for the dog.
Bruno adored his new dad right off the bat and Armen loved him in an instant. They had their moment the first time they met and that moment has now become their lifetime. They belonged with each other, that’s for sure.
