A dog in Greenville, South Carolina leaped over her family’s fence and ran away in a panic when she heard the loud fireworks display. Mary Lynn Whitacre’s 18-month-old Lab/Catahoula Leopard Dog mix named Rajah was with the family’s other dog, playing in the backyard when she fled after hearing the neighbor’s early July 4th fireworks. She went missing for about 8 hours and unexpectedly showed up at their front door at around 3:00 am.
The family’s jaw dropped as they’d never taught the dog to do that. However, Rajah seems to know exactly what to do to get back inside the house. Mary Lynn and her husband, Ryan Washick, resided in the new house for about a month when the incident happened.
They drove around for hours looking for Rajah and walked miles shouting her name. Mary Lynn resorted to social media in the hopes of finding the frightened dog. The pair only stopped after more than 7 hours of searching and they still hadn’t found her.
The couple went back home, heartbroken and worried about the dog. The pair left a t-shirt over the porch railing in the hopes that it could guide Rajah back to their home. Then, at about 3 a.m., Ryan heard scraping, followed by the ringing of the video doorbell.
And to their amazement, the missing Rajah appeared on their doorstep. The couple assumed someone had found her and taken her home. However, after watching the video footage, they found that it was all the dog’s doing.
Ryan shared the video on Reddit so that other dog lovers could enjoy it as well. Nobody knows where Rajah went. The only evidence of her whereabouts were the thorns and feces that covered her whole body.
Fortunately, Rajah was able to return home, unlike the majority of missing canines whose journeys did not end well.
