Chloe is a homeless German Shepherd mix that was saved from the streets of California. She was around two to four years old then, and although no one knows much about her background, it seemed that she had led a life filled with many difficulties.
When the former stray was brought to the shelter, she was so scared of humans that she never acknowledged anyone.
The rescue dog stayed in her kennel and kept still in one corner. She faced the wall and never moved much after that. The shelter staff would call out to her to get her attention. They would even offer her some treats and show her that she is in a safe environment, but none of their schemes worked.
She ate little and slept even less. Her trauma really got the best of her, and Chloe was on the verge of completely shutting down.
Foster care
Shira Astrof, the founder of a nonprofit organization called The Animal Rescue Mission, learned about the poor dog’s plight and decided to find her help. She got in touch with one of their volunteers, a kind man named Darvish, who agreed to take her in. Together, they took Chloe from the shelter and drove to the dog’s temporary home in California.
From the moment they got the pooch, they could see that she was terrified. She refused to walk to their vehicle. They eventually got her in, and during the ride home, Shira comforted her all the way. The rescue dog responded a bit to the lady’s gentle approach and calmed down a bit.
But when they got to the foster’s home, the frightened pooch once again refused to get out of the car. It took the two of them an hour or so to get Chloe out of the vehicle and into the house.
Foster fail
Darvish allowed the dog some space so she could get comfortable. He didn’t want to be pushy and scare her even more. And as the days passed, Chloe started trusting his foster dad. The two started bonding, and soon, the former rescue started following him everywhere.
As Darvish worked from home, Chloe would always be by his side. She felt safe with him around. Realizing this, the foster dad decided to adopt her permanently. The kind and patient man has also fallen in love with the dog and he knew that his home was the best place for her.
