Dog breeds have different recommended weights. If they go over the specified weight, they start to be more susceptible to different health issues. This is why it’s such a big deal when a dog owner rescues an obese dog and helps it lose weight.
A kind soul named Jessica found an obese dog from a shelter in Los Angeles. It was a cocker spaniel named Corina who clearly had her movement impaired. The first night was heartbreaking for Jessica as she observed her new dog struggle with breathing.
Corina couldn’t even jump on the couch, no matter how much she wanted to. However, she managed to force herself on it on the second day, which was met with loud praise. Corina clearly had the drive necessary for a weight loss journey.
After several weeks Corina went from 49 pounds to 44 pounds. This is due to Jessica’s consistent efforts to help Corina. The dog was not allowed snacks and would only eat during mealtimes. Corina would also be taken out for long walks after every meal.
Corina enjoyed her long walks, and she eventually started running. Soon enough, she lost more weight and reached 40 pounds. According to Jessica, the process was like watching someone win the Olympics.
One day Corina managed to jump on the bed all by herself. When Jessica and her husband saw that, they were astonished. In fact, a lot of what happened during Corina’s weight loss journey was astonishing.
Jessica attributed Corina’s success to the dog itself. She said that controlling the diet was their job, but the exercise process was all done by Corina. This dog set a great example for Jessica’s daughter, who was also involved in the journey.
Not everyone adopts a dog for the sole purpose of helping them. What Jessica did for Corina is an act worthy of many praises. True enough, a lot of people who found out about this story commended her efforts.
