During natural disasters, many people are displaced due to the effects of the disaster – disasters such as fires, floods, and strong winds. Unfortunately, many dogs are left behind, especially strays. These strays don’t have anywhere to go and will eventually get into a dangerous situation that can potentially cost them their lives.
While filming the situation during a massive flood in St. Louis, cameraman, Don Smith, managed to capture something moving in the flood with his camera. When he zoomed in, it was a puppy that was fighting for his life. The strong current of the flood proved to be too much for the young dog who was struggling to keep himself afloat.
Eventually, the dog managed to climb on top of a box and was able to rest for a little while. Unfortunately, the current was too strong that it swept the box away along with the already exhausted and cold puppy. Don and his crew couldn’t just stand and watch the events unfold and they certainly wouldn’t allow the puppy to drown without attempting to rescue it.
The camera crew was horrified to see the puppy struggle and they knew that they had to do something. They needed to act fast since the flood’s current was so strong that it won’t take long that the puppy would run out of energy and get swept away and drown. Thankfully, Don acted fast.
Don Smith decided to go in the water and risk getting swept away by the flood to get to the puppy. Thankfully, Don was able to get to the puppy and carry it back to safety. The puppy was shaking from being in a terrifying experience and he was also cold. After going to the vet to get checked, the puppy was adopted by the helicopter pilot which was part of Don’s team.
The puppy was appropriately named Rescue. Little Rescue owes his life to the brave cameraman who risks his life to save him. Here’s an amazing video showing Rescue’s rescue.
