Sookmyung is a Jindo that spends most of his day sitting in a parking lot. He stares at the top floors of an apartment building and a lot of people don’t know why. He is also not aggressive and he doesn’t bother anyone.
Residents of the building tried to help him several times. But for some reason, he runs away every time someone tries to get near him. He runs to the hills and only comes back when the coast is clear. If he sees that there are no people near his usual spot, he would go back and resume looking up at the facade of the structure.
The seemingly homeless dog is afraid of humans, except for kids. The only time Sookmyung takes a break from staring at the building is when there are kids around. He goes and plays with them for a short time. But after that, he goes back.
Mystery
As it turned out, the reason why he is looking up is he is deciding whether to go home or not. Sookmyung was a stray and he was adopted by a young woman who stays in that particular building. But because he never grew up inside a house, he ran away the first day that he got there. And after that, they could never catch him.
His owner would come down everyday and feed him. She would spend some time next to him but he never allowed her to come close. While he is eating, his mom would sit a few feet away.
When she tries to catch the pooch to bring him back home, he would simply run. What’s amazing is that if she doesn’t try to go after him, Sookmyung follows her from a distance. It seems as though he knows that she is his mom, but he just can’t quite trust her.
Come home
To finally get him home, the owner asked for help from the children. Since Sookmyung trusted the kids, they set up a trap for him. They formed a circle and inside was the owner. The dog went inside the circle when one of the kids called him, thinking that they were playing a game.
The owner finally got a leash over his head and she tried to comfort him. She wanted him to know that everything will be fine. The dog finally got home, and now the children would come to visit him every day. This helps make the dog feel more comfortable with his surroundings.
