While dogs are excellent swimmers, strong sea currents can overwhelm them. In case they fall into such waters, they may not survive the ordeal, especially when they get tired after swimming for a very long time.
A couple lost its dog named Myla in the waters of Pamlico Sound in North Carolina. Finding her was supposedly a difficult task, given that the area where she got lost was almost 100 miles long and about 25 miles wide.
Rescuing Myla
The U.S. Coast Guard received a call about Myla’s disappearance one Saturday afternoon. The crew, which was aboard the ship CG24508, immediately looked for the dog within Pamlico Sound.
Luckily, it did not take long before rescuers spotted a movement in the water. It was Myla! She was paddling towards the vessel’s starboard side.
One rescuer grabbed the tired pup by her collar. Then, another rescuer helped him haul Myla onto the ship.
According to a Facebook post shared by the U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet, the crew inspected Myla to ensure she had no injuries. Eventually, they turned her over to her fur parents.
The U.S. Coast Guard concluded the said Facebook post by congratulating Myla for being a good girl and an amazing swimmer.
The netizens are relieved
The U.S. Coast Guard’s Facebook post received positive reactions from the netizens. As of this writing, it actually has more than 3K reactions, over 4K shares, and about 640 comments.
A lot of commenters were relieved to hear that Myla was safe. One thanked the U.S. Coast Guard for keeping people and pets safe.
One Facebook user wished that there was a law that would mandate owners to put life vests on their dogs whenever they were out on a boat. Meanwhile, another appealed to her fellow netizens not to judge Myla’s owners, as they didn’t know how the dog actually ended up in the water.
